Would have liked to be a doctor who writes or consults (not treating patients) but med school too long and expensive. Also intrigued by Medical Librarianship but don't see a lot of opportunity there.
NEWS/MEDIA LIBRARIAN
Dream-job: working in the library/archive of a major media outlet assisting producers and journalists in research for their articles, features, news shows, documentaries, etc. Pay and competition probably suck for this though.

They became doctors not out of any real curiosity about the body, and most have not read a medical journal since medical school. I am generalizing but that is my experience in my daily professional dealings with hundreds of doctors in NY. ASk about vaccines and almost every pediatrician will tell you the standard pharmaceutical company line. That is all they know because the doctor does not have time, or the curiosity to spend non-working hours looking at research data. What kinds of jobs might I look into
2004-02-05 14:36:19 by in-healthcareI'm a 35 year old graphic designer who is pretty burned out. I've always been interesting in healthcare. Wanted to be a doctor long ago (but could never handle the hours, and I'm not a hands on "patient" type of person).
I like to read and research medical topics. I'm constantly picking the brain of my med student roommate about her adventures.
I think the study of aging is interesting. And there's supposedly going to be more and more of a need for healthcare related to aging as boomers get older.
Thing is, since I wouldnt want to actually deal one on one with patients (like a doc or nurse) I have no idea what to look into
